'Lines': A Poem by Verna Zafra-Kasala

An explosion of light and stars

followed by

lunchrooms, communions, grocery stores,

banks on payday, vacant hospital beds, slow rattling breaths, the end of time.

All we do is wait in line.

Verna Zafra-Kasala's work has appeared in decomp journal, the Tiger Moth Review, and Crooked Arrow Press, among others. She lives and teaches in the Pacific island of Guåhan (Guam) with her husband and their army of cats.
