'Night': A Poem by JD Sullivan

NIGHT
I look for the stars
in the city of lights
where the vast calm gets trapped
when the fluorescents switch off.
The difference between
an endless sky and
an endless cityscape
is an extra thumping in my chest,
alongside my heart.
The clanging of metal on metal,
never ceasing
A square block echoes
through the city,
up the sides of the skyscrapers.
But the universe,
expanding into forever, is silent.
