ONE A DAY
That is all it takes to make the bad thoughts
fade into a soft, gentle drone,
rather than piercing, painful screams
and never-ending nose bleeds.
I’m grateful to have found what helps me
be me, somewhat enabled and somewhat free,
instead of lying alone in the dark
counting empty heartbeats.
This is my treatment, there is no cure,
I will medicate for the rest of my life.
But, honestly, I do not mind as long as I am
taking one a day, one day at a time.
