'Soon': A Poem by Lucy Bishop
Updated: Oct 18, 2020

SOMEDAY SOON I'LL BE STRONGER THAN YOU
I daydream of eating all the gods
The earth shudders, mountains goosefleshed,
And I know no one stands here with me
In dreams
I plant my feet in loose soil, ankle deep
And I pray to something other than myself
For once
My words echo back to me
The mountains echo back to me
The skin of the earth chills and smooths
The rivers are calm
The lakes are mirrors
Each star is a reflection, light has traveled
Light years, dead light, live light,
Each reflection a healed resurrection
.
