Two Poems by Alisa Velaj

The light mixes

with the stream of still-sleepy contemplation

to concoct

molecules of darkness.

Butterflies and flowers of light

like fireflies

carrying a lantern

through the night cloaked in puff.

A string of seashells,

forgotten by some kid,

are peacefully bathing on the hot sand.

The wave is licking the rocky shore

with an endless thirst for the taste of the land.

Ari Rex is an award winning photographer based in Canberra.

His interest in photography started when he was a little boy. His father had an old Zorki camera and Ari was fascinated by it, since then his passion for photography kept growing and expanding.

Ari has worked in many areas of photography, winning awards in the technically challenging but exciting fields of astro-photography and macro photography. These are two areas where the camera sees more than the human eye ever possibly could. For Ari there is nothing as magical as when the camera captures the full splendor of the Milky Way arching over the horizon. It is a skill he loves to share through specialist courses for those keen to perfect their own experience of capturing the stars.
